Investigations for diagnosis in primary care
- History;
- Clinical examination;
- NT-proBNP/BNP*;
- Renal function (inc. eGFR);
- Thyroid function profile;
- Liver function profile;
- Lipid profile;
- Glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c); and
- Full blood count.
Investigations for diagnosis in urgent care
- History;
- Clinical examination;
- NT-proBNP/BNP*;
- ECG;
- ABG;
- Chest X-Ray;
- Renal function (inc. eGFR);
- Thyroid function profile;
- Liver function profile;
- Lipid profile;
- Glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c); and
- Full blood count; plus
- Trop I (only if chest pain); and/or
- D-dimer (if PE is suspected).
*NOTE: NICE clearly advocate using NT-proBNP due to its sensitivity and specificity. Where this test is not available use BNP
